Parent Equipping

Purpose of Vista’s Parent Equipping Classes: Support and assist parents to develop the Kingdom attitudes and practices of their children.

Deuteronomy 6:7 instructs us to take God’s Word and …repeat it again and again to our children. We are to talk about it when we are at home and when we are away on a journey, when we are lying down and when we are getting up again. This is a basic model for teaching children about God in the home. The perspective taught in this passage is that the parents are primarily responsible for the spiritual development of their children.

This is an important concept to fully understand and embrace. Whereas Christian schools and the local church’s Sunday school have traditionally been looked to as the places where children learn about God, the Bible teaches us that children really need to learn from their parents. Christian and Sunday schools are excellent supports and supplements to this maturation process, but the final responsibility is in the home.

Who: Parents and Grandparents of children in the targeted age groups of infant through 12 years old are attending classes lead by Kids Community staff and Vista parent volunteers. Each class includes at least one of our own families sharing their personal experiences

What: Wide variety of parenting topics and issues covered from a biblical perspective with discussion and prayer to build relationships and encourage one another. One resource and one practical parenting tool will be introduced in each class

Why: Parenting can be overwhelming therefore we offer yearly classes discussing one age group at a time along with the spiritual development that is appropriate for that year of a child’s life. Any parent or grandparent may attend classes, but each class will be geared specifically to the spiritual development of a certain age child.

When: During the Sunday morning services at Vista Community Church. Parents will meet for fellowship and refreshments at the beginning of the service in a classroom in Kids Community. Class time will be for adults only as children will be in their Kids Community classrooms.

Typical Class schedule:
10:30 – 10:45 :: fellowship and introductions
10:45 – 11:00 :: teaching and introduction of resource
11:00 – 11:15 :: introduction specific parenting tool
11:15 – 11:30 :: discussion of resource and specific parenting tool
11:30 – 11:45 :: parenting small group prayer
