Jan 9th | Worshipful Orientation
At least in part, worship is about orientation. Orientation of man to God. As one of our core values, we realize that without a proper relationship with and to God, we have no chance at the life and purposes God has for us…individually and as a Church.
Throughout scripture we are implored to worship God…to ‘kiss the ground beneath” Him. We are to approach with reverence…with a respectful and healthy fear, even. Psalm 111 says that the “fear of God is the beginning of wisdom.” That a proper orientation to God is the beginning of healthy and of all things. That without God first, everything else will be out of whack. Deut 5:29 states that when our hearts are inclined to fear God that it will go well with us and our children…forever?!? Ps 85 says surely salvation is near those who fear him. That means we need to worship God…to keep hm in his rightful place…to be properly oriented to him.
If you read Joshua 24 you will see a great leader orienting his people. Asking them to remember who God is and to reaffirm their worship of him. He makes it a hard choice…not one for weak spirits…and they respond with more than words, but with a commitment to serve and obey.
Romans 12 affirms this sentiment. the sentiment that worship is more than singing and words. Worship is sacrifice, obedience and service according to Jesus and the Word. It is to live your whole life as an offering to the One who’s in charge…worthy to be worshiped. It is to orient every thought, action and decision to Him.
