this week we finish not only a series, but an entire book. We’ve spent each autumn for the past four years exploring the Acts of the Holy Spirit…the book of Acts. In it we see the launching of Jesus church under the empowerment of the Holy Spirit. Amazing things happened in those first few decades, but possibly more fascinating even than that is the momentum the Spirit brings all the way through time to us! It’s no different today! Same Messiah. Same gospel. Same Power. Same inadequate bunch of people! God continues to build his church, and we have the inexplicable privilege of being a part of that historic movement…we are Acts chapter 29.

An interesting thing happens on the way to Acts 29, in Acts 27. God makes a promise to Paul, but Paul has to redirect his fellow journeymen to see that promise through. Acts 24b and 31. Check it out.

There are age-old theological debate around these concepts and I’m disinterested in enbracing a theory here…suffice it to say…there seems to be some compatability of divine sovereignty with human responsibility. Maybe that equates to the connection between faith and work…check out Jn 6:29, Eph 2:10, Php 2:13 and Jam 2;14-17.

God will fulfill his promises, but that doesn’t negate the importance of human actions as the means God uses to carry out his promises.

I don’t know if God’s given Vista a specific divine promise, but he has clearly built a dream within our heart to be a decentralized, transformative, organic and agile church. And He has, beyond our comprehension, blessed it.

Check out the attachment and see where it seems God might be directing us next. SecondSiteFinal

Let’s continue a movement that rests in the finished work of Jesus, but acts in faith for the unfinished work of the church for the good of others and for the glory of God!

Consider these questions among your discussions:

How is Vista like the first century church (generally, and in your life)?

Which is harder for you, faith or work?

When have you felt like you were cooperating with God?

What are your initial reactions to a Second Site?

What could God do through a Second Site?
